Come join Us.
Cape Ann Climate Change Network, Sawyer Free Library, the City of Gloucester, and Sustainable Cape Ann jointly present the first ever Clean Energy Fair at the Gloucester Public High School on Saturday, October 28th, 2006, from 9am to 4pm.
The initiative has been getting a lot of support from the city and the community and we have been really taken by surprise by how many organizations have come forward to sponsor the Fair, including the Cape Ann Business Incubator, the Gloucester Daily Times, Varian, the Toad Hall Bookstore in Rockport, Doyon's TV and Appliance, The Heights at Cape Ann, the New England Biolabs Foundation, the Cricket Press, Salem Plumbing Supply, Lighthouse Electrical Contracting and IRA.
The planning committee has tried to make sure that the Fair would have something meaningful to offer to very different types of folks (homeowners, small businesses, Youth, and lower-income households). Above all I think this is going to be a great opportunity to meet other folks in the community who really care about issues that we all wish we could do a lot more about.
Some of the exciting things the Fair will offer include:
- Many concrete and practical tips for how you can conserve energy and save money (with live demonstrations)
- Exhibits from non-profits and businesses promoting or offering clean and more affordable energy solutions
- Biodiesel, photovoltaics, geothermal, wind, and zero net energy homes
- Exhibits by local students as well as fun activities for Youth
- Speakers addressing issues related to energy conservation, renewable energy and climate change
- Screening of documentaries in a designated video corner
- A raffle
The admission and parking are free. The Common Crow and Alchemy Café will be providing food and drinks for sale.
Event organizers are promoting the fair in the local newspaper and cable channel, the Boston Globe, signs, banners, and posters. The Fair will be presented in conjunction with the 12th annual Gloucester Health Fair, an event that draws 800 attendees. Co-locating the events provides the fair with a guaranteed turnout. We have an exceptional site location, the Gloucester High School Field House.
The Fair target audience includes homeowners, business owners, condo owners, community and elected officials in the North Shore area. This event represents the first clean energy fair of its kind on the North Shore.
Fair organizers define Clean Energy as energy generated from renewable energy sources that are environmentally friendly such as solar, wind, biomass, and small hydropower. All services/products/processes used to increase the efficiency of traditional energy sources are considered cleaner alternatives and are welcome at the fair.
